Salena Mable Stamp moved to Charlotte in late 2013 after spending the previous five years performing and choreographing in Philadelphia. While she was there, she performed with Dangerous and Movin’ Dance Company, PlasmaDanceTheater, Stephen Welsh/SWERVE, Hokum Arts, Body Fields, Wabi Sabi Dance, Keila Cordova Dances and RenZoku DanceWorks. She also produced and choreographed a show for the 2011 Philadelphia Fringe Festival, and performed an excerpted solo, “Runoff” in 2012 and 2013.
Prior to moving to Philadelphia, she received her B.A. in dance from Bard College, where she studied Limón, Dunham, Cunningham, and postmodern techniques. She also studied at the Bates Dance Festival with teachers such as Kathleen Hermesdorf, Liz Lerman, and Dianne McIntyre.
Since moving to Charlotte, Salena has founded and produced Loose Leaves Showcase while performing with Triptych Collective, TAPROOT, other independent choreographers, and performance art by April Marten at the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art. Locally, her choreography has been presented at Loose Leaves Showcase, the Women’s Showcase at the Neighborhood Theater, the BOOM Festival Intersection Stage, and the Dada Soiree.
